THE CRASH HAPPENED JUST BEFORE 2 THIS AFTERNOON, ON THE BEL AIR BYPASS, NEAR ROCK SPRING ROAD, IN HARFORD COUNTY. ACCORDING TO MARYLAND STATE POLICE, THE DRIVER OF A TOYOTA, CROSSED FROM THE NORTHBOUND LANE, INTO THE STHOUBOUND LANE. THE DRIVER, HIT A HONDO CIVIC. THE IMPACT, CAUSED THE TOYOTA TO ROLL OVER, AND CATCH FIRE. ONE OF THE PEOPLE, INSIDE THE CAR, DIED. TWO OTHERS, ARE IN THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVERND A PASSENGER OF THE HONDA, DIED AT THE SCENE. THEIR NAMES, ARE BEING HELD, UNTIL EITHR FAMILY IS NOTIFIED. THEY HAVE NOT BLOCKED OFF THE ROAD DOWN BY ROUTE 24 NOR HAVE THEY BLOCKED OFF THE ROAD DOWN BY ROUTE ONE AND THE BYPASS. THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE STUCK IN TRAFFIC AT THE LOCATION. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT TOW TRUCKS ARE HERE IN THE PROCESS OF CLEANING UP AND REMOVING THE VEHICLES. WE DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER THE ROSA BE SHUT DOWN, THERE IS SOME CONCERN ABOUT POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE BRIDGE FROM THE FIRE. Four people died and one person was injured Monday afternoon in a head-on crash that shut down the Bel Air Bypass, according to Maryland State Police.Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Services spokesman Rich Gardiner told 11 News that emergency crews were called around 1:40 p.m. to a crash on the Bel Air Bypass near Rock Spring Road in Bel Air.State police said a Toyota RAV4 was traveling north when it crossed into oncoming traffic to pass another vehicle and collided with a Honda Civic.State police said the Toyota turned onto its side and caught fire. Three state troopers who arrived before firefighters and EMS crews used fire extinguishers to slow the fire. Police said the troopers then pulled three people from the SUV.One of the occupants of the Toyota -- Mary Catherine Blosse, 73, of Bel Air -- died at the scene. Two others -- the driver, Mary Yvonne Mejia, 54, of Bel Air, and a passenger, a 53-year-old woman -- were flown to Shock Trauma. Mejia died later the same evening at Shock Trauma, police said.The driver and a passenger in the Honda -- Craig Charles Faunce, 34, and Allison Mae Faunce, 35, both of Joppa -- died at the scene.The Bel Air Bypass was closed in both directions for about four hours.An investigation continues.
