CLA luncheon held Thursday at the First Baptist Church The Christian Leadership Association (CLA) noon luncheon for this month was held September 11 in the recreation hall of the First Baptist Church, with the president, Robert Warren presiding. Bill Summers, who after the opening prayer, introduced the guest speaker, the Rev. John Gilbert, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff, who is well-known in Southeast Missouri.

The CLA is a new organization of business leaders of the community who meet about once a month to highlight the role of Christian faith in the business place; providing a time of prayer, inspiration, and fellowship; addressing the spiritual concerns of people in the working world; believing that this positively impacts the whole community, Rev. Gilbert noted that Poplar Bluff also has done something like this, where those from the business world, farming interests, and church members, can come together with prayer breakfasts and luncheons to discuss local affairs from a Christian viewpoint, to feed something spiritual as well as meeting for a luncheon. He took the group, some 50 members, on a study of stating that the Bible is full of characters who lived by faith; and told how much we can learn from the Biblical people's lives; illustrating his discussion with numerous anecdotes from the Bible as well as from the lives of people in today's world. Rev. Gilbert said that Faith is several things: 1.

Ultimate activity, All things are influenced by Faith. 2. Faith is a saving and transforming activity. 3. Faith is a continuing and sustaining activity; a journey through life.

4. Faith is a pleasing activity. It is impossible to please God without faith. And 5. Faith is a very rewarding activity.

It was stained with blood for a purpose and one's compassion for the sacrifice that spattered the bridge should span from one land to another, then another and on and on. He said that Abraham had RADICAL FAITH complete obedience. He heard God and acted on it. He picked up everything he owned and left, burning his bridges behind him. Christians may think that "accepting Jesus" is IT, but it means more your life itself ACTION.

Abraham went to a "strange country. He was a tent dweller. Today we love our 'house'. We like the credentials, the status. Abraham lived as a stranger.

He was an ambassador. If we would think a little less of the things of this world, we'd be more like Abraham had RESTLESS FAITH America's dream is to "make it" and retire, enjoying our riches. God wants us to be restless; to never be satisfied and never quit. Abraham never got satisfied. He always looked for the city whose maker and ruler is God.

God raised him up, complete in obedience, a completed sacrifice. RESURRECTION FAITH We are the people of the Resurrection faith.
